David Cross

Stand Up Comedy

Irreverent comedian and social commentator David Cross has maintained a relatively low celebrity profile while at the same time working consistently in TV, film, and the live performance circuit, endearing himself to legions of fans. His smart and fearless comedy style is marked by a simultaneous honesty and cynicism that kind of goes beyond satire to somewhere else. His solo work tends to focus on topics of religion, politics, and a total refusal to skirt around any issue. Characterized by his small frame, bald head, and black glasses, his major career accomplishment has been as one-half of the HBO series 'Mr. Show with Bob and David.' Born in Atlanta, GA, he went to college in Boston and started doing stand-up comedy before moving out to Los Angeles. He met Bob Odenkirk while working as a writer for 'The Ben Stiller Show' on HBO and the two joined forces to create the unique sketch comedy series 'Mr. Show' in 1995. With Odenkirk and Cross as the original funders, writers, actors, and executive producers, the show was nominated for several Emmy awards and eventually ended in 1998.

Car Seat Headrest

Car Seat Headrest is Will Toledo, who as a teenager in Virginia started recording his own music on a laptop in his family's car. He uploaded a bunch of his pop songs to Bandcamp in 2010. They didn't go anywhere, but as he experimented with electronic insertions and distortions, his self-produced albums attracted the notice of a pop music critic for The New Yorker magazine, who described Toledo as an "oldies-obsessed pop prodigy perfecting his Beatles and Beach Boys melodies, mostly playing all the instruments himself." Now a fully fledged adult, Toledo has a band and has released an album's worth of material under the Matador label, "Teens of Style." His first studio album, "Teens of Denial," was released in 2016.

Liz Phair

Liz Phair's 1993 debut, 'Exile in Guyville,' raised eyebrows with its no-holds-barred lyrics on sex and other taboos. She broke out briefly a year later with 'Whip-Smart' to both a more critical and a larger fanbase, despite her not touring and little radio airplay. After marrying in 1995, she worked infrequently on some new songs and finally issued 'whitechocolatespaceegg' in 1998. Her 2003 self-titled album boasts a more pop oriented sound, with tracks such as 'Why Can't I?' and 'Extraordinary' garnering wide radio airplay. In 2005 Phair released 'Somebody's Miracle,' and in 2008 she celebrates the 15th anniversary of 'Exile in Guyville' with an expanded reissue with bonus tracks.
